Just a quick note to let you in on some exciting news before it's announced in the upcoming newsletter by the FOGT.

Erik and I will be hosting the 2010 Friends of Gladys Taber Reunion in SOUTHBURY, CONNECTICUT!!!!!

I have some wonderful ideas and there have been great ideas submitted by our own Mary Lou (who I will be contacting in the near future).

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this!!  What would you like to see at a reunion??  Have you been to Southbury before??

And an update...

As most of you know, the sites that I have are NOT connected to the FOGT.  The original sites were started by Susan Stanley (who passed away in 2007) and they were her own tribute sites.  They will continue to be just that.

Before Susan died however, she and I had discussed placing an information page about the FOGT on the main site, since we get so many inquiries about it.  It's for this reason that I will be placing a contacts/information page on the main site.  I have always endeavored to do things according to Susan's wishes and I think this falls into that realm.

Hi, I'm new to this site, but was a friend of Gladys' for many years and would love to hear more about a gathering of her friends at Southbury in 2010.  I was lucky enough to hear about and be able to contribute to the Southbury Land Trust which helped to purchase the Phillips' Farm which in turn protects Stillmeadow.  I've been to Stillmeadow twice; once during Gladys' lifetime in 1974 and again in 1986 with my husband.  Also was blessed by being able to visit Gladys at Still Cove where I got to hear Amber's purrsong.  She even allowed a pet or two.  My last handwritten letter from Gladys was written from the hospital just 10 days before her death.  I see that a museum on Cape Cod is collecting letters and papers about Gladys.  What a good idea.  Her words are so heartfelt and timeless as she is herself.  Thank you.

I loved reading your post Gladiana - about being able to meet Gladys and Amber in person. You must have good memories of Stillmeadow and Still Cove. Hopefully I will get to meet you next year. Bonnie

Dear Gladiana...

Welcome to the Stillmeadow Friends forum.  My name is Shelley Rogers and I am the founder of the forum.  As it happens, I am also the person hosting the 2010 Reunion at Southbury, CT.  There will be more information forthcoming in the Friends of Gladys Taber Newsletters.

Your letter from Gladys sounds like a treasure indeed...but having met our dear Gladys...how blessed you are.

I look forward to hearing more about you.

Best, Shelley

Welcome Gladiana,

I would love to hear what Gladys wrote about just shortly before her death.

Shelley and I just visited Southbury to start planning the reunion.  I will let her fill everyone in on all our ideas and what we've discovered to date.

Hi Gladiana,

Are you from Southbury?  How did you hear about this site?  By any chance did you see an article in the Heritage Village paper about our reunion?

First, Shelley, I love what you are doing to the media on the blog...how did you add it?

Second, I just discovered the blog you created with Susan Stanley...not the one she created first, but the one with all of your writing...great writing....love the picts of her grandchild...makes her death even sadder.

Third, we had a wonderful meeting in Newtown...first meeting of the CT Chapter...I was hoping you were going to be there....Susan gave us all old 1950's double copies of Family Circle and The Ladies Home Journal...Carol Yaccone and others cooked pumpkin bread and other treats from Gladys cookbooks and we talked about Gladys...thinking she was looking down at us from heaven.

So, how are you?

Haven't gotten the stationery yet.

I used to belong to the Friends of Gladys Taber and get the newsletters but was unable to be involved the last several years. I'd like information on how to join and am very interested in the reunion next year. My name is Susan Weaver (sweaver@fcps1.org) 11160 Willow Drive, Apt. J, Bealeton, VA 22712. I've lived in Virginia for the past five years (Pennsylvania previously) and I'm an English teacher. I have most, if not all, of Ms. Taber's books and continue to enjoy them. I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you! Susan

I have hopes of coming to Stillmeadow next year..we used to vacation in Tolland and Coventry but since our favarite B and B closed we have been going to Cape Ann, always with the thought of coming home the "long way around" so I could visit Southbury, Stillmeadow and Woodbury [ancestral building there, old Curtiss tavern]. Maybe next summer we will be making 2 trips out if health permits. I have so many of Gladys books that I feel I have been there hundreds of times in the past but it has been a long time dream to actually go there.
